Books about surrogacy for adults

Surrogacy can be a complex process, and many intended parents spend time doing research to be as prepared as possible. Here are some books specifically for intended parents who are pursuing surrogacy to create their families.

For the millions of women who have been touched by infertility in some way, or know someone who has, Surrogacy Was the Way will open their eyes to amazing possibilities. It will show them that they do have options, and with persistence and faith, they can achieve their dreams of motherhood after all.

Successful Surrogacy provides intended parents a first-hand look at the gestational surrogacy process from start to finish from a surrogate perspective and addresses their concerns and questions every step of the way.

Everything Conceivable examines how families are created through assisted reproduction, including surrogacy. This book includes interviews with doctors, families, surrogates, sperm and egg donors, infertile men and women, single and gay and lesbian parents.

Children’s books about surrogacy

Children’s books that explain surrogacy in the simplest of terms are a great resource for parents. They can help you begin to share your child’s unique birth story or explain to an older sibling how you are expecting a baby with the help of a surrogate. Whether your family includes a mom and dad, two dads or two moms, or if you are a single parent – there are books that help explain surrogacy with your family in mind. Check out the following links to our Intended Parents Blog for recommendations.

A cute little book to help parents talk about the special way their child came into their lives. it’s a complete portrayal of the surrogacy process, from beginning to end, with sensitivity and intelligence. This book illustrates that with open communication and honesty, even what seems like a Difficult conversation with your child can turn out to be the most rewarding talk you might have with them.

Grown in Another Garden introduces young children (ages 2-8) to surrogacy. Follow the story of Mikey and his family as he learns about the unique way he was born into a loving family – through the kindness of a surrogate. Join him as he discovers that “sometimes the sweetest and most beautiful creations are grown in another garden.” Mikey’s story helps to explain why some families choose surrogates to help grow their families and why surrogates choose to help other families this way.

A sweet children’s story of how two kangaroos: Jack and Sam, a gay couple, have their own baby by means of an egg donor and surrogacy. Using kangaroos in the story enables children to easily understand the methods related to their conception in a simple and loving way.

The Very Kind Koala is a charming picture book for young children, which provides an introduction to surrogacy through the simple story of a koala bear and her husband who needed the help of a very kind koala to carry their baby in her pouch. Parents can begin reading this story to children as young as 3 years of age to begin the dialog about their own helpful surrogate.

Support for intended parents experiencing infertility

We know that many intended parents who opt for surrogacy to start or expand their families have experienced infertility. One in eight couples (or 12% of women) have difficulty conceiving or sustaining a pregnancy.

RESOLVE: The National Infertility Association is a national patient advocacy organization. RESOLVE’s mission is to ensure that all people challenged in their family building journey reach resolution through being empowered by knowledge, supported by community, united by advocacy and inspired to act. The organization offers a number of resources for intended parents, including support groups. RESOVLE offers both in-person and virtual support groups for couples and individuals. Visit www.resolve.org/get-help/find-a-support-group to search support groups by topic and location.

Our Podcast offers various resources, we recently interviewed Rebecca Flick, Chief External Affairs Officer for Resolve, shares her journey since joining in 2005, initially motivated by a desire to make a difference. Little did she anticipate that she would become personally impacted by infertility, adding her voice to the chorus advocating for support and change.

We’re privileged to hear her story and insights, along with all the amazing happenings taking place during National Infertility Awareness Week. RESOLVE, from its humble origins around a kitchen table, has evolved into an extraordinary organization, transcending expectations and we are so excited to highlight such their important role in this community.

Connecting with other intended parents

A surrogacy journey can feel isolating if you do not know someone personally who has been down this road before. Some intended parents express a desire to connect with others who are on the same path, to share experiences, seek advice and encourage one another. Our agency has a private Facebook group specifically for this purpose. If you would like to join, please click here to locate the group. You will be prompted to answer a few questions before being added to the group.

At Egg Donor & Surrogate Solutions, our dedicated team is here to guide and support you every step along the journey. If you would like to learn more about how we help intended parents navigate the surrogacy process, please reach out to our team at Info@CreateAHappyFamily.com. We would be honored to work with you!
