Why Women Decide to Become Gestational Surrogates

We recently spoke to the founder and CEO of Surrogate Solutions, Gayle Garrett about the reasons women choose to become surrogates. She shared that for most women, the reasons are very personal. For the most part, it’s some variation of feeling fortunate they were able to become pregnant and blessed to have a family of their own.

They are eager to give others the joy of creating families of their own.

“That was certainly the case for me,” Gayle said:

“I saw so many of my friends and family members struggle with infertility when I had experienced easy and uneventful pregnancies and deliveries. It seemed natural to me to help a couple who were not as fortunate. The one thing that I wish all surrogates knew – and I didn’t know until I experienced it myself – is just how far-reaching a gift you are giving. There is honestly nothing in the world that compares to watching a couple hold their baby in their arms for the first time. You can see in their eyes that all the years of struggling to start a family just fall away.”

In her years of working with surrogates and intended parents, Gayle observed that the focus is always placed on pregnancy and birth, but surrogacy goes so far beyond that. You affect their extended family and their community. You’re truly creating a life-long legacy, a new life that wouldn’t have existed without your help.

It’s truly the most impactful thing you can do.

By the same token, people often forget what the intended parents are able to do for the surrogates.

While gestational surrogacy is no substitute for income, it can give women a little breathing room to be able to stay home with their children or complete their education without worrying about added expenses.
